AUDITION DETAILS

Vocal Auditions

Choose an audition song appropriate to the musical genre of The Music Man. Plan to sing approximately a 45-60 second excerpt which shows off your voice. Please bring sheet music for our provided pianist.

Child auditioners (8-13) may also choose to sing excerpts from "Gary, Indiana" or "Goodnight my Someone” which are available in the audition packet.

All sheet music must either be in a book that lays flat or in a 3-ring binder set up to minimize page turns. No loose sheets for the pianist. Clearly mark your cut. If using photocopies, confirm that all music is fully copied onto the page for the pianist (i.e., that there are two lines of piano music and one vocal line for every stave on the page.)

You may also bring in a device to play a backing track, but we prefer you utilize our pianist. If using a backing track, it must be an instrumental-only version of your song. You take responsibility for making sure your device is set up correctly. We will be able to play audio from devices with a 1/8” headphone jack, a USB-C port, or a Lightning port.

We do not recommend singing a cappella for your vocal audition.

Acting Auditions

The audition will consist of a “lukewarm read,” where auditionees will read from the sides of dialogue available in the audition packet. Please select to read the side labeled with the role you are interested in, or the side that best aligns with the age range of the role you are interested in.

In the audition room, there will be a reader at the audition table who will read for the other character. Sides are already available in the audition packet and physical copies also be available at the audition.

Dance Auditions

For dance auditions, please wear comfortable clothes that will not restrict movement (please no jeans). Dance shoes such as jazz, ballet, or character shoes should be worn (dancing barefoot or in socks is also acceptable). No long earrings or necklaces, please.

Rehearsal Schedule: Rehearsals will typically be held Sunday-Thursday evenings, starting on June 11. Depending on the role, the frequency of practice may differ.

Mandatory Cast Meeting: June 11 (First Rehearsal)

Mandatory Load In & Tech Week rehearsals: July 30-August 2

Performances: August 3-August 6

Strike and Load Out: August 6, following the final performance
